Prodimex Group sugar plants continue to switch to environmentally friendly packaging

An integral part of the Prodimex Group development strategy is modernization of enterprises’ production lines combined with continual improvement of product packaging. Now that sustainability issues are of great importance there are additional requirements to the packaging of goods for both wholesale and retail buyers.
For more than 8 years the Prodimex Group sugar plants have been packing granulated sugar for retail customers in paper bags. The company has made choice in favor of environmentally friendly packaging materials as part of a long-term program aimed at minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring a favorable environmental situation in the regions of presence. In addition, paper packaging is becoming more and more attractive to customers. Nowadays consumers are much more conscious in choosing not only the product itself, but also eco-friendly packaging materials.
Currently over 70% retail packages of Prodimex brand sugar are delivered to consumers in paper or cardboard packages. Sugar of the extra quality under «Naturiqa» brand is presented exclusively in paper packaging. All pressed sugar under Prodimex and Naturiqa brands is packed in cardboard boxes.
Due to the some peculiarities packaging in bags weighing 25, 50 and 100 kg does not allow to completely get rid of synthetic materials, but the polypropylene film they are made of complies with the technical regulations for packaging safety. Prodimex specialists are looking for further solutions and are switching gradually to biodegradable materials. Industrial 1000 kg polypropylene big bags are used by factories repeatedly reducing the amount of possible waste. Since 2014 the enterprises of Prodimex Group have been actively using bulk tankers for industrial sugar transportation.
