New packaging line is being launched at Zemetchinsky sugar plant

Zemetchinsky Sugar Plant (owned by Prodimex Group) in Penza Region launched a new line for 1 and 5 kg packages .The daily packaging capacity for 1 kg is 200 tons, for 5 kg — about 50 tons. The enterprise will annually produce 85 thousand tons of sugar in retail packaging.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Agriculture of Penza Region Roman Kalentiev, Executive Director of Zemetchinsky Sugar Plant Igor Mishunin as well as the company management.
The commissioning the packaging line aims at expand sugar supply to retail chains and provide Penza Region and the Volga Federal District with a socially significant product in a convenient for consumers small packs.
The project was launched a year ago and considering the current high demand in sugar Prodimex has accelerated its completion. Investments amounted to 240 million rubles. The opening of the shop makes possible to create additional 57 jobs in the region.
The new workshop will package white sugar of TS2 and Extra categories. The company has installed domestic and imported production lines. Sugar will be shipped by road and rail. The launch of the packaging capacities will significantly increase the volumes of packed sugar for retail chains, shops and end consumers .
Minister of Agriculture of th Penza Region Roman Kalentiev congratulated the management of the plant and Prodimex group during the official opening of a new workshop. He stressed: «The opening of the packaging line will reduce delivery time from the factory to the counter, eliminate unnecessary supply chains and reduce logistics costs. For enterprises the turnover increases, and for consumers it becomes possible to purchase a cheaper product. Such equipment makes possible to expand the supply of sugar to retail chains.»
In turn, Igor Mishunin, Executive Director of the Zemetchinsky Sugar Plant, noted: «Currently, the need to increase the small packaging capacity is of particular importance. Since spring, the domestic market has been experiencing an increased demand for sugar, which was abundant in warehouses, but in short supply in retail packages. By expanding the product line, the plant gets the opportunity to directly supply packaged sugar to retail avoiding middlemen thus eliminating the speculative component.»
For the Prodimex Group of Companies, which owns 14 sugar plants this is already the fifth enterprise that packs sugar for sale through retail chains. Over the past ten years, sugar sales to federal and regional chains have increased fivefold and demand for products in small packages is growing. At the moment, the same packaging facilities operate at Elan-Kolenovskiy Sugar Factory and Pereleshinsky Sugar Plant in Voronezh Region, at Zolotukhinsky branch of Kursksakharprom and at Uspensky Sugar Factory in Krasnodar region.
Zemetchinsky Sugar Plant is the main enterprise of Prodimex group in the Volga region and one of the oldest enterprises within the domestic beet sugar industry. It was founded in 1849. It was modernized between 2006 and 2010 and in present it is a modern high-tech enterprise. The location, beet slicing capacity and transport accessibility of the enterprise are optimal conditions for the opening the retail packaging lines.
