Agroinvestor: Margins in sugar beet production
In 2025, according to Rosstat data at the end of December, sugar beet plantings exceeded 1.2 million hectares — a record for the last 14 years. The top 10 sugar beet producers this season included Krasnodar Krai and the Tambov, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Kursk, Oryol and Belgorod regions, as well as several Volga region constituents — the Penza region and the republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. Together they accounted for more than 80% of the crop harvested in 2025.
Prodimex Group, whose farms are located in the Central Federal District, among other places, harvested almost 6.9 million tonnes of sugar beet in the past agricultural year, more than 750 thousand tonnes more than in 2024. The share of own raw material in the holding’s processing exceeded 70%, and the beet planting area was unchanged from the previous season. Harvesting this season in almost all regions of operation was completed within optimal timeframes, says the group’s Chief Executive Officer Viktor Aleksakhin.
In the 2025/26 season, Prodimex Group plants produced a total of 1.35 million tonnes of sugar (1.27 million tonnes a year earlier), processing almost 9.5 million tonnes of beet (in 2024 — 8.3 million tonnes). Processing at the group’s plants finished earlier than in the previous season, in the third ten days of January. The last of the holding’s enterprises to stop was the Zolotukhinsky sugar plant in the Kursk region. “The early end of processing is partly explained by the early start-up of the plants,” Aleksakhin notes.
